High School

Overview

The high school (grades 9 – 12) curriculum is from the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Pennsylvania, USA. The curriculum prepares learners to for their future studies at the university level and prepares them for the modern work environment. The curriculum is flexible. It can be adapted to suit learner needs in every part of the world. In principle, every learner requires relevant knowledge for his or her career. Studying is not meant for passing exams, but for equipping learners with ample knowledge to cope with an ever-changing world.

Curriculum Vision

Each learner is an individual with different learning needs and learning style preferences. However, all learners have the potential to succeed. Education should prepare learners for higher education and their future careers. Moreover, learners will have self-responsibilities as well as societal responsibilities.

Curriculum Framework

• Big Ideas;
  They are declarative statements that describe concepts that transcend grade levels. Big Ideas are essential to facilitate focus for specific content.
• Concepts;
  Based on grade-level-specific instruction, concepts describe what learners should understand (key knowledge
• Competencies;
  They describe what learners should be able to do (key skills) facilitated by grade-level instruction.
• Essential Questions;
  These are questions connected to the Standard Aligned System (SAS) framework and are specifically linked to Big Ideas. They should frame student inquiry, promote critical thinking, and assist in learning.
• Core Subjects;
  English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Art and Humanities, and Health, Safety and Physical Education.
• Elective Subjects;
  Computer Science, Business, Career Education, Environment and Ecology, Family and Consumer Sciences, and World Languages.

Curriculum Aims: 

1. Facilitating learner readiness to study in higher education and/or to equip learners with enough knowledge for their future careers.
2. Providing instruction to learners with educational standards of the United States.
3. Facilitating information literacy, critical thinking, and evaluation.
4. Developing learners to be qualified citizens who care for the environment and society.
5. Developing knowledge, responsibility, and goal setting so that learners grow and succeed.
